About the Image
In November 2006, Muslim women attended the Women's Islamic Initiative in Spirituality and Equity in New York. The aim of the initiative is to create an opportunity for different voices to discuss issues of women's rights, roles, and responsibilities, and generate a broader, more inclusive Islamic framework for understanding global Muslim women's issues. Unheard Cuts
» Complete, Unedited Interview (mp3, 1:28.14)
Many times Krista's conversations with her guests run longer than time alotted for a radio format. Edits are made, and great audio hits the cutting room floor. Listen to the entire interview or some of the selected segments we resurfaced for your ears.
» Her First Exposure to Islam (mp3, 3:04)
Mattson touches on her early years in Paris. She talks at length about her initial encounter with students from the western part of Africa whose dignity, she says, was grounded in their Islamic roots.
» The Language of the Veil (mp3, 1:19)
Here, Mattson talks about the language people use to describe Muslim women, and how it contributes to a voyeuristic, insidious viewing of them.
» ISNA as a Front (mp3, 1:14)
Mattson responds to Krista's question about accusations concerning the Islamic Society of North America being associated with terrorist organizations.
