What faculty are saying
University of North Carolina religious studies Professor Celia Sinclair incorporated Speaking of Faith and its
"people-side up" format into a recent course based on the public radio series:
"Speaking of Faith doesn't get into who's wrong and who's right. It's not about finding out 'who I'm like.'
It's about hearing, appreciating, and attempting to understand multiple perspectives."
***
"I teach Ethics at Carthage College. This coming semester I am dumping most of the required text books and
instead am going to require that students do reports on ten Speaking of Faith shows. Your stuff is so thoughtful
and engaging that I simply could not justify requiring students to spend money on books when they have a better
chance of finding meaningful theological engagement from your content."
Eric Nelson, Carthage College

"I'm using Speaking of Faith as a foundation for an independent study during my first year as a Divinity School
student at Wake Forest University. I listen to a selection of programs, then write a reflection paper on each.
I'll also write critical reviews of three books noted in the programs. The third leg of my study is to craft an
’action plan’—so my response to your programs is not just academic, but participatory as well,
e.g. letters to elected officials, visits to centers of worship outside my own faith, and community activism."

I teach religion at Augustana College and this fall I have a first year course in our new honors program
called Civitas. The center piece for the first month is the book Speaking of Faith and various of the shows
to support it. This honors program at Augustana is new and centers on some themes from the work of Dietrich
Bonhoeffer, in particular the theme of responsible citizenship.
Ann Pederson, Augustana College
